Kiwi Spotting at Mamaku Point Conservation Reserve
Join us for a memorable evening to see if we can spot one of the largest of New Zealand's iconic kiwi species, the Stewart Island Brown Kiwi (Tokoeka) within the Mamaku Point Conservation Reserve. A world class ecological preserve, Mamaku Point is a thriving habitat for native flora and fauna (more than 126 native species at last count), including a population of Stewart Island Brown Kiwi. Listen for Morepork and Blue Penguin and marvel at the stars above - since 2019 Stewart Island's spectacular night sky has been accredited Dark Sky Sanctuary status by the International Dark Sky Association.
Mamaku Point Conservation Reserve is located 4km from the Oban township of Stewart Island and has been protected by biosecurity fence to inhibit the movement of non-native mammals into the area since 2005. With exclusive access for kiwi spotting tours, Ulva's Guided Walks is proud to support the efforts of the Mamuku Point Conservation Trust and all their efforts toward the protection of our unique native flora and fauna.
