night & day special  Ulva Island Guided Walk & evening kiwi spotting combo $244pp

This tour combines our half day Beautiful Birding & Botany Ulva Island guided walk with evening kiwi spotting at Mamaku Point Conservation Reserve.
Departs for Ulva Island:  GOLDEN BAY WHARF at 8.30am or 1.00pm, duration 3.5 to 4 hours.
Departs for kiwi spotting:  OBAN TOWNSHIP after sunset (depending on time of year this can be between 6.30pm and 10.30pm), duration 2 to 3 hours. Time and location advised when you contact us to re confirm your booking.
Price includes: return water taxi between Stewart Island and Ulva Island, our specialist natural history/bird watching guide for the duration of the tour, vehicle transfers where indicated for kiwi spotting, Department of Conservation concession fees where applicable, $20 per person donation to Mamaku Point Conservation Trust where applicable and tax.
Operates: Operates all year except 1st January, 5th November, 25th Dec & 31st December.
Online booking:  the default setting is for 8.30am Ulva Island guided walk and for both tours to occur on the same date.  Book for the date you wish to join our half day Ulva Island guided walk and use the comments field to indicate a different kiwi spotting date or 1.00pm departure for Ulva Island guided walk.

Then join us for a memorable evening to see the largest of New Zealand's iconic kiwi species, the Stewart Island Brown Kiwi (Tokoeka) in its natural habitat. After entering Mamaku Point Conservation Reserve via a straightforward quarantine area, the search for Stewart Island Brown Kiwi (Tokoeka) begins.  Explore the forest and favoured hang-outs of these rare iconic birds; listen for Morepork and Blue Penguin; marvel at the stars above.

Level of fitness required:
  • good level of fitness and agility essential;
  • ability to walk unassisted in the dark;
  • manage challenging terrain including muddy/wet tracks, uneven ground, gradients, native bush, sandy beach;
  • we walk for 2 hours kiwi spotting and 3.5 hours at Ulva Island.
Tour is not suitable for those with visual impairment, walking difficulties or youngsters aged under 15 years old.
